Prestashop stock inventory setup

The first thing to decide when setting up stock management is whether you actually want Prestashop to ‘manage’ your stock levels at all. It is possible to completely disable this function. If you do want it to manage your stock levels however you must have ‘real’ stock numbers assigned to each product.

The switches associated with stock management can be found under admin/preferences/products.

If you do not want Prestashop to manage your inventory simply set Enable Stock Management to ‘no’. The result will be that Prestashop will not check stock numbers in order to decide whether a product can be ordered or not.
If you want Prestashop to have a measure of control over an item’s availability for purchase the following options on the same page apply:

Allow ordering out of stock products – only set to ‘yes’ if you get regular top up orders. In other words if the potential delay to the customer will be minimal. Setting this to ‘yes’ when considerable re-ordering delays could be reasonably expected will only cost you sales.
Display quantity on product page – optional
Display pre-tax price on product page – within Australia this should be set to ‘no’ when dealing with a retail customer base. If your market is the wholesale trade then you could set it to ‘yes’
Display unavailable product attributes on product page – in general it is probably best to set this to ‘no’ as a customer will then be more likely to choose from the available options rather than wait on something that is not in stock.
Display last quantities when quantity is lower than – setting this to 1 or 2 can be a good way to encourage immediate purchases. I wouldn’t use this option if you only have 1 of virtually everything in the shop though . . . that’s not a good look.
Number of days in which the product is considered new – the result is used to select items that display in the new items module. The actual number will vary widely for different product ranges. For example new CDs may be released every week, but new BMWs only once a year. Adjust to suit your product range.

Setting up an email account in Outlook

There are several versions of Outlook currently in use but the general setup procedure is outlined below. Note that these instructions are for setting up email accounts to access TOSD servers. They also show how to set up your Outlook to both send and receive email via your domain’s hosting account. An alternative is to receive email from your domain’s hosting account, but to send it via your ISP. In that case you will need to provide you ISP’s details in Step5.
Step 1. Select [Tools] / [Email Accounts ...] from the main menu.

Step 2. Select ‘Add a new email account’ … then click [next].

Step 3. Select ‘POP3′ … then click [next]

Step 4. The following screenshot shows the fields filled out for Jane Smith. Jane would have been provided with the following information from TOSD to set up the incoming (POP3) account:

Email account: info@mydomain.com.au

POP3 server: mail.mydomain.com.au

Username: info+mydomain.com.au (note the use of the ‘+’ . . . not ‘@’)

Password: 123456

Step 5. In addition TOSD would have supplied the following details to set up the outgoing (SMTP) account:

SMTP Server: mail.mydomain.com.au

Username and Password: as per the POP3 settings

Authentication: Yes

Port: 26 (not the default 25)

Follow these additional steps to set up the outgoing mail:

Click [More settings ...]
On the [Outgoing Server] tab check ‘My outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication’ and ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’
On the [Advanced] tab set the outgoing server (SMTP) port to 26.
Fill out the information in the [General] tab. The first field is just a friendly name by which your account will be known when you use Outlook. It could be ‘Home’ or Work’ etc. The Reply address is the address emails will be sent to when recipients of your emails click ‘reply’
Click [OK] to save

Note: If you would like to send mail through your ISP then you will need to use the Server, Username and Password they provide.

When you are back on the main Email Accounts screen (shown in Step 4) click the [Test Accounts Settings ...] button. All tests should receive a tick.

Step 6: Click the [Next] button then [Finish] to save your settings.

Note: If you have multiple accounts set up in Outlook (e.g. a work account and a personal account) you can select which one to send from when you create an email. The selection is a drop down box next to the send button. Select the desired account before clicking send!

Setting up a PC email account

The links below will open Flash Tutorials showing how to setup a new email account in your email client (program). Note that two things are required to set up email services on your PC: a server account (set up via cPanel on your hosting account) and a client account (set up on your PC). These tutorials are for setting up the email client account on your PC.

Sometimes it is not necessary to set up a new account. If you have an existing account and are transferring your web hosting you may only need to alter the POP3 settings. TOSD will advise on your particular situation.

Also note that while these tutorials are for setting up new accounts, they can also be useful if you have to modify the settings of an existing account.
