Handy FTP

Handy by name, handy by nature! This really is the easiest way I have come across for clients to transfer files to their web site.

But first to explain ... if you are transferring a lot of files at the one time to your web site then aceFTP (or FireFTP if you use the Firefox browser) would be the preferred choice. Those tools work like a file manager between your local PC and your web server and are ideal for transferring large amounts of files to different directories.

Handy FTP on the other hand has a simpler role in life. It is intended to send just a few files to a pre-determined directory on your web server account. And it is brilliantly simple. No mucking around, no connecting to the server, no need to negotiate directories, nothing. Just [Right click ] and [Upload to].

For TOSD clients with Online Shops this can be a real boon. Typically, if the [click to enlarge] facility is being used, additional large images will need to be uploaded to a specific directory. Usually the images/large directory or similar. The point is that for this purpose clients are normally only uploading a few of the large images at a time, and they are always going to the same destination directory.

And this is where HandyFTP comes in. The destination directory is set up once - with details supplied by TOSD - and from then on all you need to do to upload an image to your web server is [Right click ] on an image in any folder in your PC and [Upload to]. Couldn't be easier.
