FTP Client Application Installation

An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client is an application installed on your PC that enables you to transfer a file from a directory on your own PC straight into a directory on a remote PC.

Specifically, if you have an Online Shop or CMS site from TOSD, it can be used to transfer (upload) images so that they are accessible to the FCKeditor, and the "Click to Enlarge" facility in osCommerce shops.

To start, first download AceFTP 3 and follow the installation instructions.

To make a connection with your server open AceFTP and select [File/Connect] then [New Site Profile]

On the first line enter a connection name of your choice. In the "Server" field enter the address of the ftp server, "User Id" and "Password" as advised by TOSD. Check "Connect to the site when this wizard completes", then click [Next]

On the second screen of the wizard you will be prompted to enter the "Local" and "Host" folders. These are the directories on your local PC (local) that you will be transferring files from, and your server's directory (host) where you will be transferring files to. Usually the root directory of your online shop is a good place to start, so enter "/public_html/" (without the inverted commas) as your "Host" folder. When you have completed the setup save it. In future you will only have to click on the pre-defined FTP connection to connect to your server.

Click [Finish] to connect to your server. The "/public_html/" directory will open as the default directory, and from there you will be able to navigate to other directories just as you would on your own PC. Normally to connect to your site you would open AceFTP, select [File/Connect] and then double click on the name in the list that you chose for your site.
