It is fair to say that if you are considering an osCommerce solution for either a Retail or Wholesale application then you are not alone. Currently there are over 12,667 registered osCommerce online stores worldwide. And they are just the registered ones. Given that  registration is entirely voluntary  is is reasonable to suppose that this figure is the tip of the iceberg.

So why do so many people choose osCommerce?
Having provided osCommerce solutions for clients for some time now the reasons seem to fall into the following key categories:

  • Cost effective - the core application is Open Source . In effect this means that all a client pays for is the graphical design overlay and configuration to their particular needs.
  • Flexible - with the vast number of modules available to extend the capabilities of osCommerce there is virtually no online shop requirement that cannot be accommodated.
  • Support - the development community behind osCommerce is second to none.
  • Multi-purpose - one of the very powerful features of osCommerce is it's ability to be re-configured for Retail, Wholesale or both. Each group having it's own category, product, pricing and freight structures.
  • Proven - it is nice to know when you choose an eCommerce solution that there are already 10s of thousands of others out their trading securely and reliably. And they have been doing it for years.
  • Secure payment options - whether you want to process transactions online or offline osCommerce interfaces securely with most major payment gateways.
