Adding a new category:
- Click [Catalog] from the opening admin screen
- Existing categories will be listed. To add a new one click [new category].
- Enter the new category name. The category image should remain blank. If you leave the sort order blank the categories will sort alphabetically. Assign a sort order number in each category to force the sort order.
- Click [save] to create the new category
- To add a sub-category, first click on the folder icon associated with the parent category to open it, then click 'new category' to create the sub-category. The rest is as per creating a category.
Adding a new product:
- In the categories list, click on the folder icon next to the category you wish to add a product to. The list of all products currently in the category will then be displayed
- At the bottom of the list click [new product]
- Enter values for the following fields:
- Products Manufacturer -select from drop down list
- Products Name - keep this short and descriptive
- Tax class - generally GST for Australia
- Product Price - enter prices for a retail site, or "0" for a wholesale site
- Quantity blocks - usually "1", but could be set to any other number. e.g. if you only sell the product in quantities of three then you would enter "3"
- Price break values and their quantities should only be entered if you offer discounts for quantity. e.g. a $10.00 item may be $8.00 for 10 or more, and $7.00 for 20 or more
- Product description - this should be a full description of your product including colours, sizes, materials etc as appropriate. Note that quite comprehensive formatting options are available with the online editor
- Products Quantity. This is the stock inventory quantity. If you are not using osCommerce to track your stock holding set this to "1"
- Products model. This is you stock code
- Products Image. Click [browse] to upload the appropriate image from a directory on your PC
- TIP: in setting up your data, if you make the image name the same as the stock code it is much easier to keep track of everything
- Products URL - not required unless you are linking to related information on another site. If you have a Blog from TOSD this is where a link would be inserted to take the customer to the appropriate post in your Blog
- Products weight - set to zero unless you have set the system to calculate freight based on the weight of each item ordered
- To record the product click [preview] then [upload]. Note that when you view the preview screen the price may read $0.00 if prices are only visible to wholesale customers. This is because the displayed price is reflecting the retail price which in this case is $0.00
